Primary Teaching for Mastery Development Work Groups

NCP 23-09

Picture
In 2022/23, all Maths Hubs will be running Primary Teaching for Mastery Development Work Groups led by Mastery Specialists.

This programme is for schools who have a commitment to developing a teaching for mastery approach. Although the school’s participation involves two teachers attending events outside of the school, it is expected that these two teachers lead development across the whole school. Each Maths Hub is now seeking to recruit schools for Work Groups, each involving six or seven schools.

For more information on the Teaching for Mastery Development Work Groups and the application please click the document below or the individual links at the side of this page. Once the school has completed its first year in the Primary Teaching for Mastery Work Group, it will then move on the next phases Teaching for Mastery Embedding Work Group, followed by Teaching for Mastery Sustaining Work Group.

Please note we understand that not all schools are able to start on the Development phase of the programme straightaway for a variety of reasons, which is why the Mastery Readiness Work Group programme has been developed. More information can be found here.

Still not sure?

Look at this testimonial from a school who have been through the programme and get in touch if you have any questions.
Being part of a teacher research group COMPLETELY changed the way the school and I saw Maths. It allowed us to speak with an expert on theories and techniques to use so that we could develop and enhance (more importantly) our teaching and the children’s understanding. We were given small challenges to trial and use in school and over the year, bit-by-bit, Maths was changed and changed for the better. Since using the Teacher Research Group, we have improved Maths at Y6 SATs from 79% to 90% of children at Age Related Expectation with a KS1 to KS2 progress score of 2.5. We’re predicting and seeing further improvements throughout school. Confidence in all teaching and support staff has improved with CPD and children are looking at Maths in a whole new way – a better way! We were recently Peer Reviewed by an OFSTED inspector, who commented on the exceptional Maths throughout school - both verbally and written. The consistent approach through school was highly commended too.  If it wasn’t for the Maths Hub, I am certain our Maths would not be as good as it is today.   Jason Barratt, Sleaford Church Lane Primary School
